PLANS for a three-tower luxury residential development worth $900 million have been revealed for a prominent patch of the Gold Coast.

PLANS for a three-tower luxury residential development worth $900 million have been revealed for a prominent patch of the Gold Coast.

It will be the first Queensland project for RDG, a wholly owned Gold Coast-based company whose parent company is China-based Ridong.

It paid more than $80 million for the 1.13ha beachfront parcel at Surfers Paradise, known as the Pacific Beach site, in 2009.

Chief executive Steven Haggart, who was in Brisbane yesterday to brief State Government ministers on the project, said the company already had been in talks with Gold Coast City Council about their plans and hoped to soon lodge a development application.

International architects were invited to submit proposals for the project and Oppenheim Architecture + Design, of Miami in the US, had been selected.

“They will work with DBI (Design) locally on the Gold Coast to carry the project forward,” Mr Haggart said.

The buildings have been designed with a “crystal” theme, which has been influenced by Mt Warning in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Mr Haggart said Mt Warning was an ancient shield volcano, so the design incorporated the look of shards or crystals to link to that history.

The development will feature three towers, the tallest to be about 45 levels.

It will house a 5½-star to six-star hotel with about 150 rooms and 130 serviced apartments. The two remaining towers will collectively house about 380 luxury apartments.

All towers will sit on top of a podium level that will have a variety of facilities, including a restaurant, fitness club and spa.

“It is intended to be a destination,” Mr Haggart said.

The site is half-way between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Mr Haggart said this gave them an opportunity to create something that could stand separately from those hubs.

“It is an opportunity to create a new international market on that end of the Gold Coast,” Mr Haggart said.

He believes about 15 per cent of buyers will be local or from Brisbane, about 25 per cent from Sydney and Melbourne and the balance international.

The company hopes to receive a development approval by the end of the year and then start marketing about nine months after that.

Hilton Hotels & Resorts’ newest Australian hotel, Hilton Surfers Paradise, has appointed a General Manager ahead of its stage one opening in December.

Hilton Surfers Paradise is the first leisure-focused hotel and residences development by Hilton Hotels & Resorts in Australia.

It is also the first international five-star equivalent hotel to be built on the Gold Coast since 2000.

Newly appointed General Manager, David Kelly, brings with him more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry.

At least 15 of those years have been spent with Hilton Worldwide, both in Australia and internationally.

Kelly was most recently the General Manager at Hilton Cairns, where he undertook major refurbishment projects and successfully restructured the business.

Prior to this he was Director of Business Development for Hilton Sydney during the hotel’s refurbishment and subsequent re-launch.

He also spent four years with Hilton in New York.

Kelly says it is a great honor to be appointed as General Manager of the newest and most eagerly-awaited upper upscale hotel to be built on the Gold Coast in years.

“Hilton Surfers Paradise is set to deliver a new standard of contemporary holiday accommodation on the Gold Coast,” he says.

“The development of a hotel and residence concept caters for customers need for additional space and more flexible accommodation options, without sacrificing upscale service and five star facilities.

Hilton Surfers Paradise will be the first hotel and residences offering by the leading accomodation chain in Australia, with 250 one, two and three-bedroom apartments available for holiday-makers.

It consists of two towers, with Boulevard Tower opening its doors to both residents and guests in December and Orchid Tower, consisting of additional residences and a dedicated Hilton Hotel, scheduled to open in mid-2011.

Hilton Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast) – construction update…

Construction has topped out on the roof of the Boulevard tower of the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences on the Gold Coast – reaching 32 levels and 186 residences.

At the same time, work is moving forward on the second and tallest tower, Orchid Tower, which is currently at level 14 and due for completion in late 2011.

It will feature 57 levels and include luxury residential apartments and a Hilton Hotel.

The basement car park excavation has reached the B5 level, which is the lowest basement in the total of 6 levels.

Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel & Residences is already making its mark on the Gold Coast skyline, with construction past half way on the first tower.

Workers have reached level 20 of Boulevard Tower, which will eventually stretch 32 storeys into the sky, and have completed four of the five basement levels.

The core structure will hit its full height in May, with the basement to be completed mid-year, ahead of total completion of the tower in late 2010.

At the same time, work is moving forward on the second and tallest tower, Orchid Tower, which is at level six and due for completion in late 2011.

More than 300 workers are on-site each day constructing Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel & Residences, with that number expected to peak about mid-year, when up to 1000 workers will be involved directly and indirectly in the construction effort.

Brookfield Multiplex to rescue Hilton Hotel (23/10/08)

CONSTRUCTION giant Brookfield Multiplex has stepped in to rescue a $700 million Hilton project in Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast.

The project is the Hilton Hotel , being built by debt-stricken property firm Raptis Group.

Brookfield Multiplex will provide funding as a joint venture partner on the five-star hotel, with expectations the project will be completed in 2011.

Arrangements are to be finalised next month, Raptis said.

The Queensland-based company launched the dual tower Hilton Surfers Paradise in November last year and had been looking for rescue partners.
