Coolangatta

Coolangatta is the Gold Coast’s most southerly town and is the gateway to northern New South Wales. It is bordered by its ‘twin town’, Tweed Heads in New South Wales. The coastal suburb boasts some of the city’s best beaches and maintains a relaxed atmosphere despite being a growing business region. It is also only 30 minutes from the tourist hub of Surfers Paradise and is a popular destination where hotels and resorts are endless. The Gold Coast Airport is a major feature of the region and has part of its runway on the Gold Coast and part in New South Wales. Coolangatta is popular for people of all ages who are attracted to the area for its laidback, beachside atmosphere. The area is home to the Wintersun Festival, an increasingly popular annual event held in Coolangatta every June that celebrates the 1950s and 60s.

Residential

A diverse range of housing is available in this region with everything from ageing houses to luxury apartments available. Highrises are being built continually and houses are becoming increasingly limited. Most houses in the area were built in the 1960s and many have been renovated or demolished in order to redevelop the land.

Shopping

The Showcase Shopping Centre situated on Marine Parade offers beachfront shopping with a number of specialty stores as well as cafes and restaurants. On the second Sunday of every month the Coolangatta Markets are held across the road in the park with a range of arts and crafts on offer. Nearby Centro Tweed Mall Shopping Centre is home to major retailers Target, Woolworths and Coles as well as specialty stores and food outlets.

The Coolangatta Hotel (aka the Coolie) is a popular venue and often hosts national and international acts as well as their popular Sunday afternoon karaoke. Australia’s largest services club, Twin Towns Services Club, also sits on the Coolangatta-Tweed border and regularly plays host to high profile acts.
