Canungra, the gateway to Lamington National Park, is situated in the Gold Coast Hinterland in the Scenic Rim Regional Council. The stunning area is famous for O’Reilly’s and Binna Burra Resorts and the picturesque valleys of the Coomera River and Canungra Creek. Canungra’s relaxing country atmosphere and good old fashioned hospitality is a step back in time and adds to its charm. The wooded hills and mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for a picnic, hang-gliding, bushwalking and bird watching. The area has also become popular for its wineries and equestrian facilities.

Residential

Houses in Canungra range from older styles to more modern designs. While acreage is still available, the area has seen considerable subdivision into smaller acreage as well as township lots.

Shopping

Small shops and cafes line the main street of this country town. For fresh produce and arts and crafts visit Canungra country markets, held on the fourth Saturday of each month. The village also has its own supermarket. Nearby Mount Tamborine offers charming shops and cafes in the same country setting.

Canungra has a primary school but the closest high schools are at Nerang, Beaudesert, and Mount Tamborine which are accessible by school bus.

Unfortunately no public transport services Canungra. Thirty minutes driving time to the CBD, 45 minutes to Gold Coast Airport and 60 minutes to Brisbane City Airport.

Recreation

Canungra is known for its wineries and eateries. The Albert River and Canungra Valley wineries have become popular with tourists and locals alike. Relax to the sounds of blues and jazz in the Canungra Valley Vineyards on a Sunday afternoon. Laheys’ Tramway Tunnel is the lasting reminder of Canungra’s sawmilling past and is worth a visit. O’Reilly’s and Binna Burra resorts are accessible from Canungra as are Kokoda barracks where it is possible to visit the Museum of Military Intelligence. Golf

Canungra Area Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course with 18 different tees located on the army base. A feature of this course is a suspension bridge about 20 metres above a creek that has to be crossed twice during the nine holes. Visitors are welcome outside of competition time.
