Beenleigh

The northern gateway to the Gold Coast, Beenleigh still retains much of its rural township history and feel. The suburb, located between the Albert and Logan Rivers, is central and offers direct access to Brisbane and the Gold Coast by rail and the M1 Motorway. It has a well established business centre and is the major administrative centre for the northern part of the Gold Coast.

Residential

Houses in this area tend generally to be from the 1980s with some early homes dating back to the 1900s. Some of the older houses offer redevelopment potential in areas close to the town centre.

Shopping

Beenleigh Mall and Beenleigh Market Place have major grocery stores as well as specialty shops.

Primary schools: Beenleigh, Mt Warren Park, Windaroo, St Joseph’s (Catholic). High schools: Windaroo and Beenleigh. Colleges: Rivermount, Canterbury and Trinity.

Retirement

Noyea Riverside Retirement Village has one, two and three bedroom dwellings and offers free-hold units with 24 hour security. The village has full facilities overlooking the Albert River.

Woodbeck Village, situated in between Pine Avenue and Woodbeck Street off Logan Street, offers assisted living. Beenleigh Town Centre is just 500 metres away.

Transport

Local buses service Beenleigh. Thirty minutes to Brisbane CBD, 30 minutes to Surfers Paradise, 15 minutes to Griffith University campus at Mt Gravatt. Beenleigh rail station links to Brisbane and other Gold Coast stations.

Recreation

Beenleigh is home to one of the few rum distilleries in Australia. The Beenleigh Rum Distillery, home of the oldest surviving still in Australia, is open for guided tours.Visitors can view a series of displays. 14km east of town is the Rocky Point Sugar Mill which is open for inspection during the cane season (July-December). The mill, which is still in operation, claims to be the only privately-owned sugar mill in Australia. Beenleigh Historical Village tells the story of how Beenleigh and the surrounding district was formed. It has more than 20 buildings on site with historical significance including the original church, school, boot-makers shop, railway station, post office, jail, council chambers, and several old cottages.

Golf

Mt Warren Park Golf Course, which is associated with the Beenleigh RSL, is an 18-hole course that provides competitions for veterans, women and men. Private and/or group lessons are also available.

Windaroo Lakes Golf Course is a picturesque, challenging 18-hole par 72 course that hosted the Queensland Open from 1992-95. Visitors are welcome.
